Under a scheme operated by the Retail Skills Shop in association with Christchurch Borough Council and Christchurch Chamber of Trade, shops are visited anonymously by a team of ‘mystery shoppers’.
The Retail Skills Shop, supported by The Learning and Skills Council and Skillsmart, commissions ‘mystery shoppers’ to visit rural towns in Dorset as part of their mission to develop retail skills and improve retail growth. The shoppers mark each store on its window display, ambience, welcome, range of product, till transaction and overall customer satisfaction.
Out of 20 shops reviewed in the borough in 2006, virtually all achieved 8 out of 10 and five even achieved full marks.
Receiving an award not only improves your standing with customers, but is a boost for staff morale and for careers in retailing.
