Airport Expansion On Schedule, Despite Cloudy Skies

Bournemouth Airport building works are now well underway, with all the enabling works and ground clearing completed. Manchester Airports Group have committed £20 million to the redevelopment, despite the threat hanging over them from the New Forest National Park Authority.

The New Forest National Park Authority has applied for a Judicial Review of the Airport's Planning Permission and, despite representations from the Airport and Christchurch Council, seem resolute in their intention to make this “ an important point of principle."

Be Prepared… For Chaos

Dorset County Council has issued its roadworks plan for the coming year. Around Christchurch the main things to watch out for are the resurfacing of Stony Lane from the railway bridge to the County boundary. This will mean complete closure for short periods whilst they work under the bridge and at the Sopley turn off. This is planned for April or May.

The exit road from Mudeford Quay is also scheduled to be resurfaced - a year later in March 2009.

But the real threat will be in February 2009 when the whole of the A337 from Hinton Avenue to the Christchurch Road / Ringwood Road roundabout will be resurfaced. Yes, right through the centre of Highcliffe. This work has to be done and will inevitably cause severe congestion on this busy road. All you can do is the prepared!

Museum Ideas Did Not Fly

Bournemouth Airport authorities have decided to convert a hangar into a new car park following the decision by the trustees of the Aviation Museum not to accept it has a suitable alternative venue and to decommission the museum.
Whilst it is a great disappointment that agreement could not be found on a location for such a popular attraction, it does mean that the second car park proposed along Parley Lane, and the associated new road junction, will now not be needed.
